About Rangpur Division of Bangladesh

Rangpur is the 7th division and this division split off from the Rajshahi division very recently on January 25, 2010. Before that, it had been the northern eight districts of the Rajshahi Division.  The Rangpur division consists now of eight districts and there are 58 sub-districts. Rangpur is the northernmost division of Bangladesh and has a population of about 17,000,000. 
    The eight districts of this division are  
  • Rangpur
  • Dinajpur
  • Kurigram
  • Gaibandha 
  • Nilphamari
  • Panchagarh
  • Thakurgaon and
  • Lalmonirhat

Total area of this division is 16,184.99 km2 9 (6,249 sq miles).
Rangpur Division has a great historical importance. Mansingh the commander of Emperor Akbar conquered the part of Rangpur in 1575. Rangpur came completely under the Mughal Empire in 1686. Till now Mughalbasa and Mughalhat of Kurigram bear the Sarkar of Ghoraghat and part under the sarkar of Pinjarah.
Transportation system is very well of this division. Road, Rail and Airport communication is available in this division. There are 21 express trains from this division to communicate with the other part of the country. Among the three airport of this division Saidpur Airport is the major airport in Saidpur, in Rangpur.
